Burn survivors honoured at COSMOGLITZ AWARDS, hosted by CHENNAI PLASTIC SURGERY

One of the renowned Cosmetic Surgery and Weight Loss centres in the city, ‘Chennai Plastic Surgery’ hosts the COSMOGLITZ AWARDS annually. The 3rd edition was held in a grand manner at Chennai recently. Ms.Rohini, a Social activist cum actress along with Prof. R.Venkataswami, Head - Apollo's National Institute for Reconstructive Surgery, Microsurgery and Hand Surgery had given away the GLITZ PHOENIX award for a team of eight bold burn survivors.

 

All the burn survivors were formally trained and are currently working in ‘Writer’s Café’ that is located in Royapettah, Chennai. These 8 women were refused acceptance by many in the society earlier. Taking it up as as a challenge, Priyadarshini, Asma, Mariyammal, Tamil Selvi, Parimala, Punithavalli, Sathya and Komala have now strongly imprinted a name for themselves. As a gesture of respect for their self confidence, positivity and willingness to excel at work, they were honoured with the GLITZ PHOENIX awards. 

 

Apart from these, ‘Chennai Plastic Surgery’ honoured Mrs.Sujatha Menon (50 years) with GLITZ AVATAR award in appreciation for having lost 50 Kgs over a period of 3.5 years and transforming herself, without going under the knife. She achieved it through proper diet and regular exercise, setting an example for many others who are fighting weight issues.

The event was preceded by 2 panel discussions on two much needed topics ‘Fair is not always Lovely’ and ‘Body Shaming and Imagined Ugliness Syndrome’, organised by Chennai Plastic Surgery. The first panel discussed ‘Pros and Cons of improving skin colour through various treatments' and the second panel on ‘Societal standards of colour & weight discrimination & how to overcome them'. It is to be noted that Social activists, Plastics Surgeons, Psychologists, Dieticians, Fashion Designers and Veterans from various departments participated in this conference. 

 

Also, the book ‘Liposuction – The Big Fat Story’ written by Sunitha Raj was released in a grandeur way. ‘The big fat story’ that was released by India’s senior most Plastic Surgeon Prof. R.Venkataswami (Dr.Karthik Ram’s Mentor and Guru). 

 

Dr. Karthik Ram, the founder of Chennai Plastic Surgery said “Chennai Plastic Surgery center has consistently provided solutions for obesity, hair and skin related issues. Apart from that, we are also encouraging people who are setting examples for others in the society through our COSMOGLITZ awards. Just like the burn survivors who were awarded this year, we propose to honour achievers from the transgender community next year. We are also planning a huge forum to enable them discuss the problems transgenders face in their day to day life”
