Chennai, Aug.08 : The Residency presents Tirunelveli food festival at Spice Jar Restaurant from the 4th to 13th August 2017.
The diversity in Tirunelveli cuisine has evolved from its past, when major historical & social events dictated the menu selections & choice of ingredients, the foundation being uppu / puli/ kaaram and influenced by cuisine from across communities , like the Naadars, the Thevars, the Saiva pillais and the Muslims. This inspired our Executive Chef Ganesh to come up with the food festival.
An inimitable thirst quencher to beat the heat, a chilled glass of Nannari Sharbat (sarsaparilla syrup) begins the dining experience.Variations of traditional rasam in the form of appetizing soup — vaazhaipoo rasam, vaepam poo rasam, vethalai rasam…followed by an array of delicacies such as poondu kozhambu, morkozhambu, vatha kozhambu, avial , variety poriyals made with vazhaikkai, pudalangaai, kathirikkai, poosanikkai, and the irresistible manathakkali pachchadi, to name a few!
Popular non vegetarian delicacies served are Ambai kozhi kothu, Valliyur erachi kozhambu, Thoothukudi meen puli kozhambu and Sattur kozhi varuval etc
Signature dishes take on various avatars such as the crisp coin parathas, which is prepared in the live kitchen.
And ends on a sweet note with delicacies such as the all time favorite Tirunelveli Halwa and other varieties on the halwa counter, along with sukku karupatti mittai, ravai urundai, suiyam, porulvilangaa urundai & the marvellous inippu sev.
