My Girl My Pride a panel discussion presented by Billroth Hospitals -  Adhitri, is being held on August 14, Radisson Blu Hotel, Egmore at 4:00 pm.

With the panel discussion, Adhitri wants to focus on the girl child with an emphasis on the challenges she faces, the opportunities that can be created and the support that she requires. My Girl My Pride will have an esteemed panel to spark ideas; share stories and in turn generate ways to act now and advocate change for the coming generations.  From safety to economic disparity, from the difficulty of juggling myriad roles to the economic advantage of having thriving and confident women in society.

About the Panelists 

Bhavani Devi - Fencing Champion

Bhavani Devi is the only Indian to have won gold at an internationally recognised fencing competition. She began fencing when she was 11 years old and is now ranked No. 36 in the International Fencing Federation world rankings.  She has won bronze at the 2009 Junior Commonwealth Games in Malaysia, the International Open in Thailand and the Commonwealth Championship in Jersey, UK, in 2012. In 2014, she won her first gold at the Tuscany Cup in Italy and silver at the Asian Championship’s U-23 category. The year 2015 saw her sweep both senior and junior categories at the national games, but her biggest victory till date came in early 2017 when she won gold at the Satellite World Cup in Iceland. She is currently pursuing her MBA at St Joseph's Engineering College, Chennai.  

Arivazhagan Venkatachalam - Director

Arivazhagan is a gold medalist from the M.G.R. Government Film and Television Training Institute. After a stint assisiting the renowned director Shankar, he made Eeram, Vallinam and Kuttram 23, all well recieved and having progressive plot lines.

Sripriya - Actress

Sripriya is an Indian actress who has acted in over 300 films in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi in leading and supporting roles. She has also directed movies in Tamil and Telugu.  

Dr. V. Rajini is an MBBS, DGO, Infertility Specialist, Obstetrics and Gynecologist with over 23 years of experience in treating infertile patients and turning many childless couples into happy parents

Kirthi Jayakumar - Activist, Artist, Social Entrepreneur and Writer

Kirthi Jayakumar founded and runs the Red Elephant Foundation that works for gender equality through storytelling, advocacy and digital interventions. She also founded and runs fynePRINT, a feminist e-publishing imprint. She is a member of the Youth Working Group for Gender Equality under the UNIANYD. She has authored two novels and coded an app named Sahas for survivors of gender based violence. Kirthi was invited to Michelle Obama's United State of Women Summit at the White House and has attended and spoken at a number of events including Barack Obama's Town Hall, TEDx Chennai, Economic Times Women's Summit 2018 and UNV Partnerships Forum. She has received a number of awards for her efforts including the US Presidential Services Medal (2012). 

C.K Kumaravel – Entrepreneur 

Destined to be an entrepreneur with a difference, Mr C. K. Kumaravel is the co-founder of Groom India Salon & Spa Pvt Ltd, the brand that owns India’s No 1 salon chain Naturals. The first Naturals salon was started in 2000 by his wife, Ms K Veena, and the brand now has 600 + salons across India and has been hailed as a game changer in the salon and franchising industry.

CKK believes in the power of women and encourages them to be financially independent and his dream is to eradicate the word ‘housewife’ from the English dictionary.
